Many professionals want to start the autumn with a clean slate, and decide to change jobs. What are the most important things to consider when making this decision?

According to Mazhr’s Career Coach, Antero Ojanaho, first thing to consider is “What kind of people do I want to work with?” The answer is not “reliable and honest”, because who would want to work with dishonest people.

The goals and responsibilities of the work, the compatibility of the organization with your own values and way of working are important issues, but this human aspect is often given too little weight in the process. Rarely the job is done alone or without social interaction, even though we could work remotely.

“What kind of leadership works for you? What do you expect from your team leader?” This is perhaps your most important work relationship. There are several effective ways to lead, but what works for you? Several entrepreneurs answer this question “I don’t want a boss, that’s why I’m an entrepreneur.”

What kind of team members and colleagues do you want to work with? What kind of dynamics is particularly suitable for you? For example, do you get along well with technically, creatively or commercially oriented people? Do you find harmony or constant challenge particularly meaningful?

What kind of customers and stakeholders are suitable for you? B2B, B2C? Do you like to sell different solutions for financial management, marketing or factory management? Do you prefer to teach at primary school, university or international school?

As human beings, we are very different individuals, but we are united by a desire to experience cohesion as we work towards our goals. I think the saying should rather be heard; “The companion you travel with is at least as important as the destination.”
